Just because there is a world pandemic doesn’t mean that the phishing and scammers are having time off. They work remotely everyday – so it is business as usual for them.
So please continue to exercise caution when receiving emails and visiting websites – be careful online.
We have seen several emails claiming to be official documents being shared via SendTransfer, but there may be other file sharing services which are being used as well – WeTransfer, Dropbox, GoogleDrive, WeSendIt, TransferNow, Massive, etc.
Please be especially careful with shared documents from Microsoft Office365 and double check with the person sharing it before opening or following any links.
Today is as good a day as any to review your online security – passwords, anti-virus software and backups.
- We strongly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus software – it is available free for all University members
- We have updated our recommended password length FROM 12 characters to AT LEAST 16 characters
Interested in learning about passwords? - You might want to make sure you have a current backup of your work and photos.
- OneDrive is a good place to start – but you could also copy your OneDrive documents to an external USB hard disk for an offline backup.
